SCJP - Sun Certified Java Programmer
Description
The SCJP is a programming certification that demonstrates that the owner is proficient in Java programming.
This certification is considered to be the Foundation Level certification for Sun technologies.
It is maintained by Sun Microsystems Inc.
Discussion
Two exam paths are available to certify an individual as an SCJP. The first exam path demonstrates that the individual has the skills and abilities to develop client and server based applications with Java technologies as well as having the fundamentals of the language. The exam requires the following concepts (as well as others) to be understood and applied:
- Declarations and Initialization;
- Flow Control;
- Object Oriented concepts;
- APIs;
- Concurrency;
- Java Fundamentals;
Sun offers a course that would benefit a candidate attempting to gain this certification for this path. It is:
- J2SE Platform 5.0 for the Developer: Language Changes.
The second exam path is focused on the fundamentals of the Java programming language. The exam requires the following concepts (as well as others) to be understood and applied:
- Declarations;
- Flow Control;
- Garbage collection;
- Operators and Assignments;
- Overloading;
- Java Fundamentals;
- Threads;
Certification Criteria:
To be considered certified, the following criteria must be satisfied:
- The candidate must register for the exam and pay the examination fee;
- The candidate must pass an exam of multiple-choice questions.
- The first exam requires a score of 59% to pass.
- The second exam requires a score of 52% to pass.
